From Bermuda it went on to Nassau in the Bahamas. As we drove further south, it became noticeably warmer and now we enjoyed the mild sea breeze on the deck of the ship more often. After leaving Grand Bermuda, we were still a whole day at sea before we reached the port of Nassau the next morning. The turquoise water in the shallower sea sections could be seen from afar.
The center of Nassau was easily accessible from the port and we immediately set off for the city after the ship had docked.
It was very hot that day and we strolled through the historic core of this colorful city for a few hours. In addition to older buildings and smaller parks, there were also plenty of shops selling jewelry and diamonds. The green vegetation in the city also contributed to this variety of colors, which was particularly advantageous for the cityscape in the outskirts with older buildings. We learned that Nassau, founded in 1665, has an eventful history and that pirates played a special role in the early days. The pirate museum, one of the sights, tells the story of buccaneers, such as Blackbeard, in detail.
After this stroll through town, we made our way to Paradise Island, where not only the Atlantis Paradise, one of the world’s largest hotel complexes, is located, but also beautiful beaches. It wasn’t easy to find a way to the public beach. We came to a lake (Paradise Lake), where large yachts anchored, surrounded by a small amusement village, which is located directly on Atlantis Paradise. For friends of artificial water and parks, this is certainly something very special. Due to the size of these outdoor areas, we had to extend our tour through these hotel complexes to finally find a way to a public beach. There we met some “beach pirates” who wanted to take $ 10 from us for access to the public beach. We did not agree to it and were still able to pass the group to find a nice spot by the water and swim there in the turquoise sea.
In the late afternoon we went back to the ship and in the evening we could still watch the hustle and bustle around the harbor from the deck, together with the almost obligatory sunset.
